Government, Founding Directors, NACO, and Northern Ontario Angel Executive Director are recommended as resources.
Start plans for this new Angel Group and set goals for the next 3 to 5 years. Prepare applications for funding for a minimum of a 3-5 year work plan. Develop and plan a governance model for the new Board. Review other Angel Group models and ask for a copy of their policies and procedures. Review and determine what would work well with the new Angel Group;
Timeframe: 6 to 12 months
Develop a budget, review costs, and prepare a presentation budget to accompany the application;
Retrieve and review applications (and budgets) from other Angel Groups: Northern Ontario Angels as an example;
Ensure federal and provincial governments are at the table for funding;
Request a tender for directors’ liability insurance and secure operations and liability insurance; and
Host a media session announcing the Angel Group and thanking all the partners and funders. Partners should be invited to attend and the event should be an exciting one for the Yukon. Prepare job descriptions and place ads or announcements for the hiring of a new Executive Director. (ED); announce or introduce the ED at the media event if possible: Ask other Angel Groups for copies of job descriptions, job postings, and the like. Ensure one of the duties is to meet with other economic development, First Nations, innovation, and community leaders. This is vital to success!; Have a Hiring Committee in place, possibly with an executive director (or board member) of another Angel Group as part of the hiring committee; Determine the roles, responsibilities, and salary of the incoming ED. Determine the roles of the ED and the Board. Is this a working Board or a governance Board? And Recruit an experienced ED, from another Angel Group to assist in the training. This person may also be a mentor for the new ED for the first few years.
