The Importance of Structured Angel Activity andGovernment Support 4.3

S tructured angel activity can takemany forms, includ- ing non-profit and for-profit angel organizations, in- vestor clubs, networks of angel funds, angel syndicates, and incubator or accelerator-led programming that co- ordinates a community of angels in support of the start- ups they serve. The key factor that is shared across all forms of structured angel activity is accessibility. Ac- cess to an angel investor was once nearly completely predicated on knowing the right people and having ac- cess to a certain kind of network. Because of its visi- bility, structured angel activity removes these barriers,

putting angel investors in close proximity with entre- preneurs across a variety of sectors and backgrounds. Without structured angel activity, many entrepreneurs and particularly those from underrepresented commu- nities struggle to secure the funding and guidance they need to grow their companies. Structured angel activity empowers entrepreneurs with access to investor net- works, providing deal flow and due diligence to mobilize investor capital off the sidelines and into local econo- mies.
