D espite the continuation of the COVID-19 pandemic and further periodic lockdowns in 2021, angel in- vestment was significantly higher in 2021 than in 2020, with increases in both the number of investments and the amount invested. The decline in the mean size of investments that occurred in 2020 was also reversed in 2021, with the mean size of investment higher in 2021 than in 2020. However, the median size of investment was slightly lower in 2021 than in 2020. The remainder

of this report looks in more detail at angel organizations and the investments they facilitated in 2021 and trends in investment activity over time. It is structured as fol- lows: Section 2 analyzes the characteristics of angel organi- zations, including their structures, fees, investment lev- els, and member characteristics.
