The 41 angel organizations for which we have information from either their survey response or publicly available data (39 of which made investments) made a total of 635 investments in 2021, investing a total of $262.1 million. It should be noted that angel organizations of- ten invest alongside other investors, so the overall amount raised by the businesses in which angels invested is much larger. The significance of angel investors in the Cana- dian entrepreneurial ecosystem is underlined when their investment activity is compared with that of the venture capital industry. The Canadian Venture Capital Association (CVCA) reports 5 that in 2021 venture capital firms in- vested $14.7 billion – a record-breaking level of annual VC investment that more than doubled the previous record year in 2019.
