However, the economy plateaued in December (con- tinuing into 2022) as the Omicron variant caused a huge spike in COVID-19 cases, prompting the reintroduction of some restrictions on households and businesses. Some angel organizations reported that the Omicron variant had set back their resumption of in-person gath- erings, resulting in a decrease in investment activity. Yet, some angel organizations increased their interac- tion with more geographically diverse groups of entre- preneurs and angels through an online pitch format and virtual investment process. Concurrently, broader eco- nomic activity was increasingly subjected to downward pressure resulting from inflation.
