MOBILIZING ANGEL CAPITAL IN SOUTHERN ONTARIO

The SOAC project contributed to an increase in new member sign-ups among participating angel organizations: an outcome particularly critical for revenue generation, in view of angel organizations’ indication of reductions in sponsorship revenue attributable to COVID-19. While the COVID era has been disruptive, an accelerated shift to a virtual world has empowered angel organizations to recruit new members remotely, access deal flow nationally, and increase angel engagement across the investment process.

Interestingly, almost 70% of the dollar amount angel investors deployed in 2021 was attributable to new investments versus follow-on investments in previously-funded companies. Angel organizations play a critical leadership role in unlocking investment capital for Canada’s most innovative entrepreneurs. SOAC funding has empowered angel organizations with a powerful toolkit to pursue self-sustainability: including growth in memberships, growth in participation, and growth in partnership networks.
