A tlantic Canadian angel funding steady in 2021, but early-stage companies face challenges. For the past four or five years, Atlantic Canadian startups have tended to raise angel capital in a range of about $22 million to $29 million each year, and the angel funding for 2021 was right in the middle of that band. Entrevestor’s research shows that startups based in the four eastern provinces hit $26.8 million.

we’re concerned that the environment is changing, and the angel funding of less than $30 million a year may no longer be enough to sustain a healthy pipeline of early- stage companies. Entrevestor has completed its 2021 Atlantic Canada Startup Data report, its ninth such report. Each year, we conduct 200 or more interviews as journalists and survey as many startups as possible (We received 162 survey responses this year) in an effort to provide the most detailed metrics possible on the startup community.

It’s a healthy amount of funding, especially for a startup community that lacks a pan-regional angel network. But
