Open Ocean Robotics (OOR) uses clean technology to collect ocean data. Solar powered autonomous boats gather real-time information used to help protect the world’s oceans. Our oceans contain information that can protect at-risk whale species, allow ships to voyage more fuel-efficient routes, and crack down on illegal fishing, while enabling scientists to better understand the impacts of climate change. OOR’s Uncrewed Surface Vehicles (USVs) are equipped with sensors, cameras and communication devices that capture and provide instant access to oceanic data. Harvesting energy from the sun, OOR’s boats travel nonstop for months without producing any significant greenhouse gas emissions, noise pollution or oil pollution risk. USVs are helping to drive the creation of a digital ocean: an Internet of Things for the sea where humanity may finally begin to unravel the mysteries of the least explored area of Planet Earth.
