F orest fires, historic flooding and melting glaciers are a few examples of how Canadians have expe- rienced the impacts of a changing climate and the ex- treme, unpredictable weather patterns that accompany it. Countries and corporations are taking action to mitigate significant damage from climate change. Silicon Valley Bank’s 2022 report, The Future of Climate Tech , notes that over the last several years, 49 countries and 93 Fortune 500 companies have committed to net-zero emissions targets or to becoming carbon neutral.

This year, the Government of Canada released its 2030 Emissions Reduction Plan, a "roadmap that outlines a sector-by-sector path for Canada to reach its emissions reduction target of 40 percent below 2005 levels by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2050." This Emissions Reduction Plan "reflects input from over 30,000 Canadians," every Canadian province and territory, "Indigenous Peoples, industry and the independent Net- Zero Advisory Body." 8
