A ngel investors invest in a wide range of sectors in the Canadian economy. However, the Infor- mation and Communication Technologies (ICT) sector dominates, accounting for 31% of investments in 2021. Health is the second biggest sector, comprising 21% of investments (Figure 15B).
ICT’s share of investments dropped significantly over time. From 2015 to 2019, ICT accounted for close to half of all investments, dropping to just over one-third of in- vestments in 2020 and declining further in 2021. Life Sciences’ share of investments (which includes Health) increased sharply from 2019 to 2020, when the oppor- tunities created by COVID-19 boosted investment activ- ity in the sector.
