2023 Report on Angel Investing in Canada 121923W6

Age of Organizations 2.4

T he age distribution of Angel organizations under- lines the growing maturity of angel investing in Can- ada. 78% of the responding organizations have been es- tablished for more than five years and 49% have been operating for 10 years or more (Figure 4). Nevertheless, new organizations continue to be founded, with seven of the reporting organizations (20%) being less than three years (compared with 18% in 2021). This includes orga- nizations focused on women investors and on previous- ly under-served geographical territories. Newer angel organizations are also more likely to be organized on a for-profit model (with membership fees of over $500). The implications of this trend on the types of invest- ments made should be closely monitored.
