I nvestment activity, in terms of the amount invested by angel organizations, declined sharply in 2022, put- ting the recovery of investment that occurred in 2021 into reverse. Much of this decline occurred during the second half of the year as both inflation and interest rates rose. The remainder of this report looks in more detail at an- gel organizations and the investments they facilitated in 2022 and trends in investment activity over time. It is structured as follows.

Section 2 analyzes the characteristics of angel organi- zations, including their structures, fees, age, size and gender of membership and investment activity in 2022. Section 3 analyzes angel investments made in 2022, with a comparison to prior-year activity. It starts with an analysis of the demand for angel finance and the fi- nancing funnel that tracks the number of businesses that originally approach the organizations that are se- lected to present to member angels and those which are subject to due diligence that are successful in raising fi- nance.
