Rainstick

BY OKANAGAN WOMEN'S MENTORING AND ANGEL NETWORK

O n an annual basis, each of us uses the equivalent of an entire swimming pool on our daily showers. This is not only wasteful and carbon-intensive, but also very expensive, equalling one third of our household water and energy bills. RainStick, was co-founded in the Okanagan - Canada’s only desert - by CEO Alisha McFetridge to solve this sustainability challenge. The company is driving the future of water and energy conservation in the home. Rainstick’s first product is a proprietary shower tech- nology that saves 80% water and up to 80% energy while providing 2 times the flow rate.

The Rainstick appliance draws in fresh grid-supplied water, and instead of letting this valuable resource slip down the drain, the system captures it, circulates it and cleans it in real time. The result is 11,400 gallons of wa- ter savings, a reduction of 2,200 kWh used, 0.6104 MT of carbon abated and $500-$800 of savings on an an- nual recurring basis. If 3% of Canadians install a Rain- Stick that would represent a carbon reduction of over 50,000 MT a year.
