I have a post-it-note on my computer monitor that re- minds me about why and how I started, and keeps me motivated on a daily basis: "It only takes one person to believe." In 2019, I went out to raise the first round of capital for my company, Vaultt. I was a well-seasoned entrepre- neur with 25 years under my belt, but raising dilutive funding for a pre-product, pre-revenue Startup was new to me. I did know that the odds were against me as a sole woman founder and that, typically, founders like me received less than 3% of all the funding available.
My first pitch to the Capital Angel Network was unsuc- cessful, I received no investment. What I did get was their feedback. This ended up being more valuable than the dollars. They had objections, questions, and advice. We reviewed our strategy, refocused, and pivoted.
