Northern Ontario (15.3%) is in third position in 2022, followed by Quebec (15.0%) which, in two of the past four years, claimed the largest share of invest- ment dollars. Atlantic Canada and the Prairies have the smallest share of dollars invested (3.7% and 2.6% re- spectively). In contrast to 2021, the Northern Territories did not record any investment in 2022 (Figure 24). How- ever, Northern Ontario dominates on a per capita basis and has done so every year (2019-2022). In 2022 its per capita dollar investment was nine times higher than that of Southern Ontario which has the second-highest per capita amount invested. For the past three years, in the absence of data from the Northern Territories, the Prairies region has had the lowest amount invested on a per capita basis (Table 9). Southern Ontario’s position is even more dominant in terms of the number of investments, accounting for the largest share in each of the past four years. In 2022

Canada hosts seven Regional Development Agencies (RDA) that are federal government agencies responsi- ble for addressing key economic challenges and fur- thering economic development, diversification, and job creation within their respective provinces or territories. Analysis by RDA region provides a more detailed geo- graphical breakdown of angel investment activity in Canada. Central Canada is divided into three RDA re- gions: Northern Ontario, Southern Ontario and Quebec. Western Canada is divided into British Columbia (BC) and the Prairies regions (AB, SK and MB). The Northern Territories (YT, NT, and NU) are represented as one RDA region. Atlantic Canada (NB, PE, NS, and NL) is also represented as one RDA region. Southern Ontario dominates in terms of the amount in- vested, accounting for 47.8% of the total in 2022.
